Quickly clears cloudy pond water by causing tiny suspended particles of dirt & debris to clump together, forming larger particles that fall to the bottom of the pond & are siphoned out or removed by the pond filter.

Accu-Clear™ is a unique colorless polymer that rapidly eliminates cloudy pond water. Accu-Clear is environmentally safe and non-toxic to fish, plants, and other pond life. Newly established ponds may develop cloudy water during the first few weeks. Most cloudy pond water is caused by the build-up of organic matter in the pond, such as uneaten fish food, fish waste and dead plants. Blooms can be stimulated by certain nutrients released from this decomposing organic matter. (See Pond-Zyme Plus for information on eliminating organic build-up.) Additionally, pond maintenance such as water changes, filter cleaning, and aquatic plant gardening can stir up dirt and debris. In all these instances, Accu-Clear will quickly restore pond water to a crystal clear condition. Accu-Clear eliminates all forms of cloudy water caused by dirt, silt and particles. Accu-Clear works by causing tiny suspended cloud particles in pond water to clump together, forming microscopic clusters. The clusters quickly fall to the bottom of the pond and are removed by the pond filter. Use Pond Care® Pond Zyme® Plus after Accu-Clear to keep pond bottoms and filters free of decomposing dead algae, plants and fish waste, which can cloud the pond.  Unlike many other water clarifiers, Accu-Clear WILL work in acidic water. Accu-Clear is formulated to work at any pH and is not affected by the presence of other Pond Care® products

We recommend the use of Accu-Clear with Pond Care® Pond Zyme® Plus, a two-step approach for incomparable pond cleanliness.

Important
Before using Accu-Clear: Make certain that the pond has vigorous aeration, i.e. a fountain, waterfall, or aeration device. During hot summer months, pond water contains very little oxygen. In sunlight, algae and submerged plants produce oxygen, and in some cases may be the major source of oxygen in the pond. However, submerged plants and algae consume oxygen at night. Organic matter also consumes oxygen at night. Organic matter also consumes oxygen while decomposing. These three factors in conjunction with the use of Accu-Clear can cause dangerously low levels of oxygen in your pond during hot summer months. When organic matter is removed by the filter or settles to the bottom of the pond, the oxygen level may drop to harmful levels if adequate aeration is not provided. Therefore, when using Accu-Clear during the warm summer months, adequate aeration is required to avoid fish death. Do not shut off pond pumps and aeration devices off at night! Aeration must be provided for pond life at all times. When used as directed, Accu-Clear is non-toxic to fish and plants. If adequate aeration is provided, oxygen levels will not drop to dangerous levels.

Directions For Use
Mix the desired dose with a gallon of water and distribute evenly around the perimeter of the pond.

1. Add one teaspoonful (5 ml) of ACCU-CLEAR for each 50 U.S. gallons (190 L/ 41 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water.

2. Water will clear within several hours. If a second dose is necessary, wait 24 hours before applying. Filter pads should be rinsed frequently when clearing pond water.

3. ACCU-CLEAR can be used once every week to keep filters performing at maximum efficiency.

  • Keeps ponds clear during peak summer months
  • Quickly clears cloudy pond water
  • Use in conjunction with Pond-Zyme Plus for a cleaner, clearer pond

Algae Destroyer

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

All ornamental ponds, fountains, and aquariums experience occasional algae blooms. Green (Chlorophyta) and blue-green (Cyanophyta) algae can appear as a fine coating on rocks and liners, or as tufts of “beard algae." Fountains and waterfalls can become clogged with mats of stringy “hair algae."  Single-celled algae cause unsightly "green water" blooms. Algae Destroyer Liquid will control many types of undesirable algae growth in ornamental fish ponds, fountains and large aquariums. When the active ingredient in Algae Destroyer Liquid is absorbed through algal cell walls, it interrupts normal cell metabolism and causes the algae to die. This product provides effective treatment for existing algae blooms when used regularly.

Note
Filtration with activated carbon will remove Algae Destroyer products from pond water.

Directions For Use

This product is intended for use in ornamental ponds with a maximum volume of up to 1,000 U.S. gallons. It is against federal law to use these products in a manner inconsistent with its labelling.

Shake liquid well

Add 5 teaspoonfuls (25 ml) of this product for every 50 U.S. gallons (189 L) of pond water. Distribute Algae Destroyer Liquid evenly.

Treatment with either product is normally effective for several weeks. Repeat treatment when algae growth reappears.

The best time to use Algae Destroyer Liquid for ponds is when the water temperature is cool. Higher temperatures cause rapid decay of dead weeds and algae, reducing the oxygen content of water. When pond temperature exceeds 75° F (24°C), extra aeration of the pond is required to avoid fish stress.

Precaution
Algae Destroyer Liquid will injure aquatic plants, including water lilies, water lettuce and water hyacinths.

Precautionary Statements
Hazards to Humans and Domestic Animals: Harmful If swallowed. Harmful If absorbed through skin. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling.

Environmental Hazard
Do not apply to, or allow discharge to, lakes, flowing water, or ponds with outflow. Do not contaminate domestic livestock or irrigation water supplies. Water treated with this product should not be used for human swimming or bathing activities.

The pond owner's number one problem has been green water caused by single-cell algae, blanketweed & string algae. Previously, all algaecides were non-selective & killed or damaged all plants in the pond along with the algae. AlgaFix is an effective, EPA registered selective algae-control product that solves algae problems.

Overview
Pond Care AlgaeFix is a liquid algae-control product for use in ornamental fish ponds and water gardens containing live plants and fish.  Pond Care AlgaeFix controls many types of algae including “green water” blooms and filamentous algae.

Can Pond Care AlgaeFix be used in a water garden containing live plants ?
Yes. Pond Care AlgaeFix can be used in ponds containing submerged plants like cabomba, and floating plants such as water lettuce, and flowering plants, such as iris and water lilies. Pond Care AlgaeFix has been tested in extensive laboratory and field trials with aquatic plants. The following is a partial list of plants that we have tested and found to be compatible with Pond Care AlgaeFix when used as directed.

Common Name / Scientific Name

Water Pennywort / Hydrocotyle verticilliata

Can Pond Care AlgaeFix be used in a fountain ?
Yes. Pond Care AlgaeFix can be used in ornamental fountains. Pond Care AlgaeFix is non-staining and non-corrosive.

What types of algal problems will Pond Care AlgaeFix control ?
Pond Care AlgaeFix is effective against “green water” (e.g., Chlorella) algal blooms. Dense populations of suspended algae cause green water algae blooms. The water may be so green that fish cannot be seen. Pond Care AlgaeFix also controls filamentous algae commonly known as “string” or “hair algae” (e.g., Cladophora) and “blanket weed” (e.g., Oedogonium). Algae growth in ponds can appear as green water blooms, filamentous algae on plants, and floating algal mats. Algae may also grow on rocks, fountains, and waterfalls.

How does Pond Care AlgaeFix work ?
Pond Care AlgaeFix controls algae in two ways. Many algae, like Chlorella, consist of a single cell. Pond Care AlgaeFix causes the algae cell wall to leak. The algae respond much like a deflating balloon.  Other algae, such as Oedogonium, form filaments made up of many cells. Pond Care AlgaeFix binds to protein in the cell membrane, disrupting the flow of nutrients and ions across the cell membrane. Filamentous algae respond to Pond Care AlgaeFix by gradually disintegrating over time. AlgaeFix can be used with aquatic plants.

Are goldfish and koi sensitive to Pond Care AlgaeFix ?
Extensive laboratory and long-term outdoor field studies has shown that Pond Care AlgaeFix can be used in ponds containing Koi and Goldfish without worry. The outdoor field-testing ponds also contained a variety of other organisms including leopard frogs, tadpoles, snails and other aquatic life.

Are there any precautions necessary when using Pond Care AlgaeFix ?
Before using Pond Care AlgaeFix, make certain that the pond has vigorous aeration, i.e., a fountain, waterfall, or aeration device. Anytime dead algae are removed by the filter or settle to the bottom of the pond, the oxygen level may drop to harmful levels if adequate aeration is not provided. If adequate aeration is not provided, fish loss due to low oxygen levels may also occur. Therefore, when using Pond Care AlgaeFix in warm summer months, adequate aeration must be provided.  Do not shut pond pumps and aeration devices off at night. Be sure to keep the pond filter clean and running properly when using AlgaeFix.

Do not use Pond Care AlgaeFix with crustaceans, including crabs, shrimp, freshwater shrimp, and freshwater lobsters.

How do I treat with Pond Care AlgaeFix ?
It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labelling.

Add 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of Pond Care AlgaeFix for every 50 US gallons (190 L) of pond/fountain water. Thoroughly mix Pond Care AlgaeFix into the pond/fountain water by adding it near the pump outflow, waterfall, or aeration device.  Pond Care AlgaeFix can be mixed in a bucket of pond/fountain water and dispersed evenly around the pond/fountain.  Repeat dose every 3 days until algae is controlled.  Be prepared to siphon out dead filamentous algae. Once algal growth is under control, add one dose per week. Weekly doses of Pond Care AlgaeFix will control algal growth and reduce pond/fountain maintenance.

Ammo-Lock 2

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

Instantly detoxifies ammonia from fish waste, tap water, uneaten fish food, decomposing plants and algae. Prepares tap water for plants and fish.

Pond Care Ammo-Lock 2 has been uniquely developed to eliminate the toxic effects of chlorine, chloramine and ammonia that may be present in municipal water used to fill ponds. Fish waste, decomposing algae, plants and uneaten fish food produce ammonia. Ammonia, which is a colorless and odorless toxic chemical, is the number one killer of pond fish. Ammo-Lock 2 also detoxifies harmful levels of ammonia that can occur in pond water from overfeeding and overstocking of fish. Ammo-Lock 2 is patented formula instantly neutralizes both chlorine and chloramine and effectively "locks up' any potential ammonia or immediate ammonia up to 5 ppm per dose. Although ammonia will still be present in pond water, converts the ammonia to a form that is nontoxic to aquatic life; this nontoxic form actually serves as a source of nutrition for nitrifying bacteria in the biological filter. Ammonia build-up can occur whenever starting a new pond, before biological filtration becomes active, or when there is inadequate biological filtration.  You should also use Pond Care BioFilter Booster to speed the development of the biological filter.

Pond Care Ammo-Rocks remove ammonia from pond water by ion exchange, while Ammo-Lock 2  neutralizes ammonia but does not remove it. Consequently, ammonia test kits will still show positive results for ammonia when testing water treated with Ammo-Lock 2 . Ammo-Lock 2  interferes with the Pond Care Liquid Ammonia Test Kit causing a cloudy haze within the test tube. Neutralization of ammonia toxicity can only be assayed using cell culture techniques. Cell culture studies in fact have demonstrated the effectiveness of Ammo-Lock 2 in neutralizing ammonia's toxic effects on living fish tissue. Extensive research and field-testing also have shown Ammo-Lock 2 to be nontoxic to pond fish, pond plants and amphibians.

Ammo-Lock 2 was proven to be so unique and effective by these studies that is has been granted a United States patent.

Directions For Use

To Neutralize Chlorine and Chloramine
Add five teaspoonfuls (25 ml) of Ammo-Lock 2 for every 100 U.S. gallons (378 L / 83 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water. Treat the pond with Ammo-Lock 2 BEFORE adding tap water to the pond. One dose of Ammo-Lock 2 will neutralize 2.0 ppm of chlorine and 1.0 ppm of chloramine.

Detoxifying Ammonia in Pond Water
Add five teaspoonful (25 ml) of Ammo-Lock 2 for every 100 U.S. gallons (378 L / 83 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water. One dose of Ammo-Lock 2 will detoxify 1.5 ppm of ammonia. Ammo-Lock 2 will hold the ammonia in a non-toxic form until the biological filter converts the ammonia into nitrite and then to non-toxic nitrate. Ammonia test kits will test positive for ammonia when using Ammo-Lock 2. Ammonia levels will drop as the biological filter breaks down the converted ammonia, allowing you to monitor the production of ammonia and the efficiency of the filter.

  • Removes chlorine and chloramine from tap and well water
  • Eliminates ammonia stress and promotes healthy gill function
  • Use whenever ammonia is detected
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • For garden pond use only
  • Not for human consumption or for the treatment of fish intended for human consumption
  • If swallowed, immediately give 2 glasses of water and induce vomiting - call a physician
  • In case of contact with skin and eyes, immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes - call a physician

BioFilter Booster

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

A highly concentrated solution of beneficial bacteria that start up and maintain the biological filter in water gardens and koi ponds. Goldfish and koi continuously release harmful ammonia into the pond. Uneaten fish food and decaying algae also cause ammonia and nitrite build-up. The beneficial bacteria in BioFilter Booster quickly establish the biological filter and begin breaking down harmful substances and improving water quality. Regular use of BioFilter Booster helps the biological filter remain active all season long.

Why Use BioFilter Booster ?
New ponds have no active biological filtration. When fish are added to the pond, they immediately begin releasing toxic ammonia as a waste product. As uneaten fish food decomposes, it also releases ammonia and increases the level of dissolved organic compounds in the water. Such conditions result in high levels of toxic ammonia and nitrite, as well as low dissolved oxygen levels, all of which can create the potential for the outbreak of disease. The development of the biological filter is actually inhibited by these conditions, prolonging the stress on aquatic life.  BioFilter Booster improves the development of the biological filter by breaking down these inhibitory substances.
Pond Care BioFilter Booster is a highly concentrated suspension of bacteria that have been specifically selected for the development of biological filters in ornamental fish ponds. Once a pond's biological filter is established, regular use of BioFilter Booster keeps it working efficiently. BioFilter Booster helps break down harmful organic compounds that inhibit the activity of the biological filter, as well as those that lead to ammonia and nitrite poisoning of fish, low oxygen levels, and low pH.
Seasonal variations have an impact on the activity of the biological filter in established ponds. In the spring, for example, pond fish begin to feed and to excrete waste before the biological filter has come out of its winter dormancy; and a build-up of toxic ammonia can occur. BioFilter Booster helps eliminate a springtime ammonia surge by creating favorable conditions for the re-growth of nitrifying bacteria. Regular use of BioFilter Booster also assures that the biological filter will remain active during the warmer months when fish consume more food and excrete greater amounts of ammonia. Regular use of BioFilter Booster assures a well-functioning biological filter, good water quality, and healthy fish.

How BioFilter Booster Works
Each ounce of BioFilter Booster contains 500 million live bacteria to enhance the growth of the biological filter and to aid in the removal of compounds that will inhibit its development. The bacterial culture in BioFilter Booster is stabilized to provide a three-year shelf life, as shown by the expiration date on the label. Other bacterial pond products have limited shelf life, yet their labels give no expiration dates. Liquid bacterial products, in particular, are subject to rapid degradation, evidenced by their characteristic "rotten egg ‘ (hydrogen sulfide) odor. Formation of toxic hydrogen sulfide indicates complete product breakdown; consequently, such products should not be added to a pond. BioFilter Booster has only the musty odor typical of concentrated bacterial solutions. When used as directed, BioFilter Booster assures a well-functioning biological filter, good water quality, and healthy fish.

Directions For Use
Biofilter Booster should be shaken well before using.

In New Ponds
Add 10 teaspoonfuls (50 ml) of BioFilter Booster, for every 50 US gallons (190L / 42 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water, once a week for the first month. After the first month, follow directions below for "Established Ponds."

In Established Ponds
For every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L / 42 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water, add 5 teaspoonfuls (25 ml) of BioFilter Booster once a month to maintain a healthy environment for fish and plant life.

For Spring and Fall Maintenance
Add 10 teaspoonfuls (50 ml) of BioFilter Booster for every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L/ 42 UK Imp. Gal.), once a week for two weeks.

After Adding Fish Medications
When treatments with fish medication are completed, filter the pond water with activated carbon for three days. Then, to insure adequate biological filtration, add a single dose of 10 teaspoonfuls (50 ml) of BioFilter Booster for every 50 U. S. gallons (190 L / 42 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water.

  • Starts and maintains a strong biological filter in ponds
  • Reduces the build-up of toxic chemicals from fish waste and overfeeding
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • For garden pond use only
  • Not for human consumption or for use with fish intended for human consumption

Chlorine & Heavy Metal Neutralizer

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

The health and beauty of all pond life depends on the quality of water added to the pond. Many tap water supplies used to fill garden ponds contain chlorine. While chlorine makes water safe for drinking it is highly toxic to pond life. Chlorine destroys fish gill tissue preventing the uptake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide resulting in fish death. Even low levels of chlorine irritate delicate skin tissue on frogs, snails, and salamanders.

Certain metals such as copper and zinc are essential to pond life metabolism. But in elevated and unnatural levels they become toxic and are classified as toxic "heavy metals", these include lead, tin, copper, zinc, and manganese. Heavy metals sometimes enter tap water via lead and copper pipes as well as the solder used to join the pipes. Airborne pollutants can deposit heavy metals in the pond. Heavy rains carry airborne metals in to the pond where they may accumulate to toxic levels. Acid rain causes "un-reactive" metals lying dormant in the pond to become toxic.

Heavy metal poisoning may occur slowly over time. These metals slowly accumulate in the organs of aquatic life causing a variety of physiological problems ultimately leading to disease outbreaks and death. High levels of one or more of these heavy metals causes rapid death of fish and amphibians without obvious symptoms of disease or tissue damage.

Pond Care Chlorine & Heavy Metal Neutralizer instantly neutralizes chlorine and detoxifies heavy metals in tap water and ponds. Chlorine & Heavy Metal Neutralizer is safe and non-toxic for fish, plants, and other pond life. This product is naturally biodegradable and environmentally safe.

Directions  For Use
Add 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of Chlorine & Heavy Metal Neutralizer for each 100 U.S. gallons (378 L / 83 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water.

  • Instantly makes tap and well water safe for pond life
  • Use when setting up a pond or changing pond water
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • For garden pond use only
  • Not for human consumption or for use with fish intended for human consumption

Dimilin

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

For the control of Anchor Worm (Lernaea) and Fish Lice (Argulus) in ornamental ponds, water gardens, koi ponds and display tanks containing fish, including koi, goldfish, and tropical ornamental fish.

For years, pondkeepers have known the benefits of Dimilin in solving their Anchor Worm and Fish Lice problems but until now Dimilin hasn't legally been available for this use. Now Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, under an exclusive licensing agreement with The Crompton Corporation, (the manufacturers & owners of Dimilin) is excited to bring Dimilin to the pond market in an easy to use liquid form. No longer will fish owners have to use unregistered and illegal forms of diflubenzuron in questionable strength. The research team at Aquarium Pharmaceuticals has compiled all the data and, combined with the committed quality of the manufacturing processes of API, you now have available to you the correct and proper dose of Dimilin. In a proper delivery system, Dimilin solves Anchor Worm and Fish Lice problems in ponds and display/holding tanks.

Anchor Worm and Fish Lice are parasites that infest koi, goldfish, freshwater and saltwater ornamental fish in ornamental ponds, water gardens and display tanks. These parasites cause unsightly wounds often leading to secondary bacterial and fungal infections. Severe infestations can kill fish. Left untreated, anchor worm and fish lice parasites will spread to other fish. Dimilin controls the unattached anchor worm and fish lice by interrupting the parasite's life cycle and reproduction.

Anchor Worms
Anchor worms are elongated parasitic copepods that attach to the skin of fish. The most common symptom is the female worm embedded in the side of the fish. The anchor worm appears as a gray or black strand up to one inch in length. Algae can collect on the worm, giving it a green appearance.

Two egg sacs may be seen hanging from the worm. Eggs are released into the water, where they hatch into microscopic free-swimming copepods. The microscopic parasites undergo several molts as they mature. The free-swimming copepods feed on the fish mucus but do not damage the fish.

After mating, the female parasite penetrates the fish's skin. The head of the worm penetrates the fish and forms an "anchor" under the skin. The anchor can penetrate organs in smaller fish. The point of entry may develop a red ulcer, due to secondary bacterial infections.

The female worms then develop two large egg sacs that can contain up to 700 eggs. Once the eggs hatch, the free-swimming parasites re-infest the fish. The parasite's life cycle is temperature dependent and can take as little as 15 days when the water is 86°F. Anchor worm infestations are most common on koi and goldfish.

Fish Lice
Fish lice appear as flattened, disc-shaped parasites, approximately 0.2 - 0.4 inches in diameter. The parasites are translucent and take on the color of the fish. Fish lice crawl on the surface of the fish and may be seen swimming in the water. Two black eye spots may be seen on adult fish lice.

Fish lice have two unique clasp-like antennae that permit them to hold onto the fish while feeding. The parasites use their needle-like mouth to pierce the skin and feed on the fish's blood. The piercing wounds can develop secondary bacterial or fungal infections.

Adult female fish lice lay strips of eggs encased in gelatinous capsules on hard surfaces in the pond or aquarium. The eggs hatch in three weeks at 86°F. The juvenile parasites feed on the fish, undergoing several molts as they mature. As the parasites grow they will become visible on the fish. Mature fish lice mate & begin the cycle again.

Secondary Infections
Fish lice cause numerous skin wounds as they feed on the surface of the fish. Red sores may appear if secondary bacterial infections develop. Because anchor worms embed  into the fish tissue, secondary bacterial infections often occur. Bacterial infections appear as white cottony tufts on the surface of the fish. MelaFix may be used to control these secondary infections if they appear.

Treatment Instructions
Dimilin should be used as soon as parasites are observed on the fish. Anchor worm and fish lice infestations are easily spread to other ornamental ponds and display tanks by nets boots, clothing & hands. Moving an infested fish to another pond or tank will spread the disease to other fish.

Dimilin is intended for the control of the unattached form of anchor worm or fish lice. Adult anchor worms embedded in the fish will remain after treatment. It is acceptable to let the worms fall from the fish naturally. Attached worms can be removed with tweezers.

  • Effectively controls anchor worm and fish lice by interrupting the parasite's life cycle and reproductive processes
  • Easy to use liquid will not discolor the water
  • Can be used at any water temperature in ornamental ponds, water gardens and display tanks
  • Will not affect the biological filter
  • Can NOT be shipped to New Hampshire
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • For garden pond use only
  • Not for human consumption or for the treatment of fish intended for human consumption

Bacterial infections have challenged fish health professionals and hobbyists alike. MelaFix is an all-natural medication that is an effective antibacterial remedy for pond fish.

Maintaining fish health is a vital concern to aquarists and pond enthusiasts. Bacterial and fungal infections in particular have challenged fish health professionals and hobbyists alike. Many of today's current medications have become less effective due to resistant strains of infecting bacteria. In response to this growing problem, Aquarium Pharmaceuticals investigated hundreds of botanical extracts for use against fish diseases. Over six years of research and development resulted in the formulation of MelaFix™. Pond Care MelaFix is an all-natural medication derived from the leaves of "Melaleuca," the scientific name for the tea tree. The healing properties of tea tree extract have been known for centuries. University studies and extensive laboratory tests showed that MelaFix is an effective antibacterial remedy for pond fish. MelaFix also caused rapid repair of damaged fish tissue and fins. New growth was seen in as little as four days of treatment. This evidence led to the granting of a United States patent. International patents are pending.
Bacterial and fungal infections in pond fish and disease-causing organisms are present in all ponds. Anytime a physical abrasion damages fish tissue, bacterial and fungal pathogens seize the opportunity to infect the fish. Shipping, netting, and poor water quality also weaken the fish's immune system, permitting disease problems to occur. Skin and fin abrasions are an unavoidable part of fishkeeping. Therefore the potential for disease problems occurs with every new fish arrival, whether it is at the hatchery, fish wholesaler, water garden shop, or in the homeowner’s pond.

External bacterial infections cause a variety of symptoms including split and ragged fins. In extreme cases, the fins erode back to the body. Eyes may become coated with a whitish slime or protrude from the head. Bacterial infections cause hazy, slimy patches to develop on the body. These patches may develop into red ulcers. "Mouth fungus," caused by Flavobacterium (formerly Flexibacter) causes mouth tissue to deteriorate and may appear as tufts of cotton. In many cases, fish do not rapidly respond to traditional medications.

Fungal infections usually occur as a secondary infection, invading tissue already damaged by bacterial and parasitic diseases. Fungus also attacks fish that have been weakened by shipping, rough handling, exposure to ammonia and nitrite, improper netting, and malnutrition. Fungal pathogens use digestive enzymes to feed on the fish tissue. These enzymes damage nearby healthy tissue, allowing the disease to spread. Common symptoms include white cottony growth on fins, skin and mouth of fish. Healing of the damaged tissue will speed the elimination of the fungal disease.

MelaFix has powerful antibacterial properties that treat the wound and promote rapid tissue healing. Healing and tissue regeneration can usually be seen in the first four days of treatment. MelaFix also promotes re-growth of damaged fin rays and tissue. In test cases where fish had lost all tail and dorsal fins, MelaFix completely restored both fins to their original condition. MelaFix heals the wound and restores damaged tissue.

Use to treat bacterial infections on koi and goldfish, also use when introducing new fish to tanks or ponds. MelaFix is safe for snails and other invertebrates, safe for aquatic plants, domestic animals and other wildlife and MelaFix will not harm the biological filter. MelaFix will not color the water and will not stain ornaments. MelaFix has no effect on pH of the pond water.

Compatibility with other Pond Care products:
MelaFix can be used with any Pond Care® water-conditioning product including, Stress Coat® and Ammo-Lock® 2. MelaFix does not interfere with Pond Care® water quality test kits.

pH Down

Slowly adjusts the pH of pond water, which can change from day to day, without harming delicate pond fish or pond plants.

What is pH ?
The measure of the acidity of water is pH. A pH reading of 7.0 is neutral, a pH higher than 7.0 is alkaline, and lower than 7.0 is acidic. The pH of pond water will naturally fluctuate, and pond fish and plants are accustomed to these fluctuations. A pH range between 6.8 and 8.0 is ideal for garden ponds. However, acid rain, mineral leaching, soil runoff, and decomposing plant and fish waste can cause unacceptable pH levels to occur. Some sources of tap water used to fill ponds can also cause extreme pH levels. A pH below 6.8 or above 8.0 should be avoided. A pH level of 7.0 is ideal. Low pH levels of less than 6.8 can stress pond fish and suppress the activity of the biological filter. A high pH of more than 8.0 will limit the ability of many plants to absorb necessary nutrients.

Pond Care pH Up and pH Down adjust the pH in garden ponds by neutralizing excess acid or base. These products can be used daily to adjust pH until conditions stabilize. pH Up and pH Down contain no algae-promoting phosphates. It is important to accurately measure the level of pH in a pond before initiating adjustments. Use a Pond Care pH test kit to measure your pH weekly.

pH should only be either raised or lowered by no more than 0.5 units every 24 hours. Do not treat pond water more than once every 24 hours. Plants and algae cause a temporary increase in pH in the afternoon; therefore, pH should be tested in the morning to obtain the most accurate reading.

Problems of low pH
Nearly all ponds tend to turn slightly acidic (between 6.8 and 7.0) as the pond life grows. A pH below 6.8 will stress pond inhabitants. A low pH may be caused by increased carbon dioxide concentrations, the result of overstocking with fish or poor surface agitation. Proper fish stocking, as well as adequate pond filters or fountains, will correct carbon dioxide build-up and help stabilize pH.

A low pH (acidic water) may also be caused by decomposing organic matter, solid wastes from fish and birds, and decaying vegetation. The use of Pond Care® Pond Zyme® Plus and regular pond maintenance will help eliminate potentially deadly pH fluctuations.

Note
The pH of pond water goes through a natural “cycle,” fluctuating from day to night. Plants and algae, through photosynthesis, consume carbon dioxide from the pond water. This causes a gradual, temporary pH increase during the day. As sunlight diminishes, photosynthesis slows down and the pH level drops to the normal level. Testing pH in the afternoon will consistently give a higher pH measurement, hiding a low pH condition that may arise in the evening and morning hours. Therefore, it’s best to test pH in the morning hours before plants become active and pH goes up. Always test around the same time of day for the most accurate evaluation of pond pH.

Directions For Use
1. Test the pH level of the pond water to determine if adjustment is necessary.
2. IMPORTANT: Carefully mix the appropriate dose with pond water in a plastic container and distribute evenly around the perimeter of the pond.
3. For Pond Care pH Up add 2 teaspoonfuls (10 ml) for each 50 US (190 L /42 UK Imp. Gal.) gallons of pond water.
4. For Pond Care pH Down add 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) for each 50 US (190 L / 42 UK Imp. Gal.) gallons of pond water.
5. Wait 24 hours, then test pH levels. Repeat treatment as necessary.

Pond Salt

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

An all-natural sea salt that replaces electrolytes which fish loose in times of stress, including potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium. All of these are essential for the uptake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide and ammonia.

Pond fish actively maintain a natural balance of electrolytes in their body fluids. Electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium and magnesium are removed from the water by chloride cells located in the gills. These electrolytes are essential for the uptake of oxygen and release of carbon dioxide and ammonium across gill membranes. The lack of electrolytes can cause health problems in pond fish. Pond Care Pond Salt is an all-natural salt, providing essential electrolytes fish need to survive. Pond Salt is not just a table salt (sodium chloride). It is made from evaporated seawater.

How Pond Salt helps improve gill function to reduce stress...

During periods of disease and stress, healthy gill function is disturbed. This can lead to the loss of electrolytes through the gills, called osmotic shock. Osmotic shock reduces the intake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide and ammonium from the gills. Pond Salt reduces the risk of osmotic shock by replenishing natural electrolytes fish need.

How Pond Salt reduces nitrite toxicity...

Overcrowding and overfeeding can lead to elevated nitrite levels, especially in newly set-up ponds. The nitrite ion N02- enters the gills and prevents the blood from carrying oxygen, resulting in nitrite toxicity or by blocking the uptake of nitrite ions (methemoglobinemia). Pond Salt will reduce the toxic effect of nitrite.

Directions For Use

Ponds without plants
1. Add 2-1/2 cupfuls (730 g) of Pond Salt for each 100 U.S. gallons (380 L / 83 UK Imp. Gal.) of pond water. Distribute salt evenly around the perimeter of the pond.
2. After one hour, measure the salt level with a Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.2%. If the salt level is too high, make a partial water change.

Ponds with plants
1. Certain aquatic plants are sensitive to salt; use this lower salt level when plants are present. Add 1¼ cupfuls (370 g) of Pond Salt for each 100 U.S. Gallons (380 L / 83 UK Imp. Gal.) of water. Distribute the salt evenly around the perimeter of the pond.
2. After one hour, measure the salt level with a Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.1%. If the salt level is too high, make a partial water change.

Disease treatment
Many external parasitic infections (trichodina, chilodinella, ichthyobodo, and epistylis) and fungal infections can be eradicated with a short-term salt bath.

1. Using a clean plastic container, dissolve 2 ½ cupfuls (730 g) of POND SALT in 10 U.S. gallons (40 L / 8.3 UK Imp. Gal) of pond water. Do not use tap water.

2. Carefully put the infected fish in the salt bath (2.0%) for 5 to 10 minutes. DO NOT leave fish in the salt bath for longer than 10 minutes! Be sure to cover the bath container with netting or similar material to prevent fish from jumping out of the bath container.

3. After 10 minutes, place the treated fish back into the pond.

4. Salt bath may be repeated in 24 hours, if necessary.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Once added to a pond, salt does not evaporate and is not filtered out. Pond Salt should be added as directed with each water change (i.e. when water is pumped out of the pond and new water is added), or when fish have been treated with medications. Do not add Pond Salt when topping off a pond, unless the test results from the Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit indicate salt is needed.

  • Helps eliminate the toxic effects of nitrite
  • Improves fish gill function

Specially selected bacteria strains in Pond-Zyme Plus immediately begin breaking down fish waste and dead algae that cause cloudy water, sludge build-up, & debris that clogs pumps & filters. Pond-Zyme Plus reduces pond maintenance & keeps pond water clean & clear. 100% natural & safe for all pond fish, plants & wildlife.

Contains a super-concentrated blend of beneficial dry bacteria. Cleans ponds with natural enzymatic activity. Helps keep pond water clear and pond environments well-balanced. Aids in maintaining good water quality

Pond Care Pond Zyme Plus™  is an enzymatic cleaner that is a concentrated formula of seven fast- acting strains of beneficial bacteria that create and maintain sparkling clean water gardens and koi ponds. Organic matter accumulates in all garden ponds, forming an unsightly sludge layer. This matter originates from natural sources such as dead algae, plant fragments, insects, fish food and solid waste from pond fish. As the sludge decomposes, it consumes oxygen and degrades water quality. It is also a breeding ground for fish pathogens. Naturally occurring bacteria cannot consume the sludge fast enough to control its accumulation in the pond. Specially selected bacterial strains in Pond Zyme Plus quickly break down pond sludge, converting it into harmless minerals and water. Pond Zyme Plus immediately begins breaking down fish waste and dead algae that cause cloudy water, sludge build-up, and debris that clogs pumps and filters. Pond Zyme Plus also digests leaves and grass clippings that may enter your pond. Through natural nutrient competition and enzymatic action, Pond Zyme Plus reduces pond maintenance and keeps pond water clean and clear. Cleaner water means healthier fish and a more beautiful pond. Pond Zyme Plus is a100% natural product, safe for all pond fish, plants and wildlife. We recommend the use of Pond Zyme Plus with Pond Care Accu-Clear, a two-step approach for incomparable pond cleanliness.

Stress Coat

Oklahoma

UPS Ground

Please click here to return to the main POND CARE products page.

Replaces the natural mucous slime coating on the skin of pond fish when it has been damaged by handling, netting, or other forms of stress.

All pond fish secrete a mucoprotein protective slime coat that covers the scales and skin. This slime coat acts as a defense against invasion by bacterial, parasitic, and fungal pathogens. Essential electrolytes necessary for osmoregulation are lost through breaks that may occur in the skin and slime coat, causing dangerous stress. Open wounds and abrasions caused by handling, netting, and breeding behavior are readily attacked by disease organisms, resulting in further stress and disease. Pond Care Stress Coat is a special patented formula containing a slime coat replenisher and Aloe Vera, nature's own liquid bandage. This unique formula not only eases stress but also promotes the healing of damaged fish tissue.

How Stress Coat Works
Stress Coat contains a special polymer that is attracted to the skin of the fish, forming a synthetic slime coat envelope. Stress Coat also contains electrolytes such as sodium, magnesium and chloride, which helps reduce loss of electrolytes through the skin and damaged tissue. The Aloe Vera in Stress Coat reduces inflammation of damaged fish tissue. Independent studies have proven that Stress Coat with Aloe Vera aids in the healing and regeneration of damaged tissue. In addition, Stress Coat removes chlorine, breaks the chloramine bond, and detoxifies heavy metals from tap water.

This product is recommended for use when establishing a new pond, when adding new fish to a pond, and when changing pond water.

Directions for Use
1. Handling Pond Fish: Soak a cloth, net or gloves in Stress Coat before handling pond fish.
2. To protect fish: Add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Stress Coat for each 60 U.S. gallons (227 L) of pond water to protect fish, or add 4 oz. (120 ml) for each 240 U.S. gallons (900 L) of pond water to protect fish.
3. To remove chlorine: Add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of Stress Coat for each 60 U.S. gallons (227 L) of pond water to remove chlorine, or 4 oz. (120 ml) for each 480 U.S. gallons (1800 L) of pond water to remove chlorine.

Add Stress Coat whenever new water is added to the pond.

  • Instantly removes chlorine and breaks the chloramine bond
  • Contains Aloe Vera to help heal wounds and torn fins
  • Use whenever setting up a pond, adding fish, or changing pond water
  • Acts as a liquid bandage to prevent the loss of essential electrolytes
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • For garden pond use only
  • Not for human consumption or for use with fish intended for human consumption
